What is facial asymmetry?

Facial asymmetry refers to an unbalance between the left and right sides of the face in terms of the facial area, jaw size, eyebrow height, eye position, degree of cheekbones protrusion, and the corners of the mouth. If both sides of the face are significantly different when looking from the front, it can create an awkward facial expression.

Unproportional Face Asymmetrical Face

Facial Asymmetry Due to Facial Bone and Soft Tissues
In case that the median line of the face which connecting to nose, philtrum and chin tip, is not straight, lips and teeth are often slanted and malocclusion is also often accompanied.
Also, the different size of cheekbones and jaw bone as well as the difference in volume of soft tissues such as facial muscles and subcutaneous fat can also be the cause of facial asymmetry. Because the surgical procedures and/or treatment procedures can vary from person to person, 3D CT scan is used to analyze and determine the exact method for improving facial asymmetry.

Special Features of Facial Asymmetry Surgery

Integrated Surgery with Chin Tip Correction

Facial asymmetry correction surgery is performed with the chin tip correction surgery. Through the correction of both proportion and ratio of the chin tip at once, it is possible to create a beautiful face line.

Various Facial Asymmetry Correction Techniques

Depending on causes of facial asymmetry, the operation can be done in combination with various surgical/treatment procedures, such as, jaw surgery, facial contouring surgery, fat removal and facial muscles reduction to achieve the most optimal result.

Integration of Aesthetic Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery

Facial asymmetry often accompanies with malocclusion. In such case, the correction surgery can be performed together with oral and maxillofacial surgery to restore the performance of teeth.
